Keep Nacogdoches Beautiful is a volunteer organization with the mission

To enhance our community by encouraging individual responsibility.

We rely on volunteers to accomplish our core issues (see below). We also rely on donations to fund our events and programs (see a description on the events/programs page).

Catalog Choice – Eliminate Waste and Save Natural Resources

Each year, 19 billion catalogs are mailed to American consumers. Catalog Choice is a free service that allows you to decide what gets in your mailbox. Use it to reduce your mailbox clutter, while helping save natural resources. Your participation benefits merchants, lowering their cost of distribution and helping them better target their market.  Also, your participation as a member of the Catalog Choice community will collectively make a huge positive impact on the environment, as together we reduce the energy consumed, the carbon emissions, and the lost forests resulting from the current annual production and discarding of billions of paper catalogs.

McDonald's Restaurant Receives KNB Landscape Leadership Award

McDonald’s restaurant located at 1717 North St. has been awarded the Keep Nacogdoches Beautiful Landscape Leadership award. McDonald’s restaurant is being recognized for replacing their store sign with a monument sign that sits lower to the ground, and in turn enhances the visual character of the community and complements the surroundings of North Street.

“McDonald’s is exhibiting leadership in this community by showing other businesses that signs don’t have to be big and gaudy to draw customers, said Buzz Dutton, Keep Nacogdoches Beautiful executive coordinator. In fact, according to Troy Schuster, supervisor for the local McDonald’s Restaurants, the McDonald’s restaurant has seen an increase in business since replacing their sign.

“Taking care of customers and having a clean store is more important than having a big sign,” said Mr. Schuster.

According to the Scenic America web-site, “The charm and appearance of commercial districts plays an important part in a community’s image.  Signs say a lot about a place, yet all too often a community’s image is blighted by on-premise signs that are too large, too tall, too numerous or poorly located.  On-premise signs can help encourage citizens and business owners to work together to improve and revitalize local appearance. Appealing signs that are compatible with local character contribute to a neighborhood or downtown, cultivating local pride and inviting travelers to stop.”
